Lexington Golf Club broke ground on its historic renovation in the fall of 2003. Pinehurst area architect Mike Gleason headed up the design efforts, while Malphrus Course Construction sculpted the new layout. The primary focus was to modernize the golf course while keeping it player friendly. Wasting no time, Gleason saw opportunities to re-route several holes to make room for completely new looks. His efforts netted the course six brand new holes and major upgrades to those remaining. The greens were given a much needed face lift as well, and grassed with a new A1/A4 bentgrass. Strategic bunkers were added throughout, accentuating the course's already distinctive look. New seniors and ladies tees were also created to accommodate this rapidly growing player base. Perhaps one of the most significant changes was the addition of a double row irrigation system. The course never before had irrigation, which created stresses in the tough summer months. The new system will allow for optimum conditions all year long. As with all renovation projects they are never quite over. Lexington Golf Club will continue working on smaller projects and tidying up some minor details over the next year. "We are thrilled with our brand new course. It is a lot to take on a project of this size, but everyone involved has done a tremendous job. I know this golf course will once again be area golfers' first choice."-- PGA Golf Professional, JJ Fashimpaur
